Quote checklist

The same 2026 price source says most OKC installs fall between $3,000 and $12,000, and that a quality shelter door can cost $1,500 or more by itself (okctornadoshelters.com). When you compare quotes, ask for the door model and its impact rating, whether the permit and inspection are included, and the written warranty terms. Get a site visit before you sign, since a phone quote cannot account for soil or access.

Other costs

Suburb permit fees and extra paperwork

Moore's shelter permit application lists a $34.50 filing fee and asks for a stamped engineer design and, near a 100- or 500-year flood zone, an elevation certificate (City of Moore shelter permit application). Del City requires installers to be licensed with the city and bonded for $5,000 (Del City application). Once installed, up to 100 square feet of the shelter can be exempt from property tax with Form OTC 905 (Form 905). Before you compare bids, read what to ask an installer and which type fits your home.

Note: some installer pages still mention the SoonerSafe rebate. It is not open for 2026. See rebate status.
